5 New Exercises You’ve Never Tried

Unless you hire me for your programming, you’re likely bored as hell with with your current set-up. I don’t blame you. I’ve been training for 20 years now and I’ve gone through plenty of periods where I just needed a change.

With that said, here are 5 exercises you’ve likely never tried that will spruce up your program.

1.) Single Arm Lat Pulldown with Contralateral Iso-hold

This is just a traditional single arm pulldown with a banded iso-hold on the opposite side. By the time you switch arms, the pump and fatigue are real. I love this set-up.

2.) Landmine Row with Bench Support

If you’re training your back for strength or hypertrophy, you better be doing some heavy ass rows. The landmine is one of my favorite ways to load it because you can go extremely heavy, it’s easy to do drop sets, and is tremendous for grip strength (due to the thickness of the end of the barbell).

3.) Chest Isolation Fly/Adduction

There is no exercise I “feel” in my chest more than this one. It’s a very small movement and you really don’t need to go heavy. I usually squeeze and hold for two seconds at peak contraction. I prefer this over traditional flys, though I use both.

4.) Alternating Front and Lateral Raise

I love stacking shoulder exercises. This is one of my go-to combos that I program for clients. I prefer the front raise with a neutral grip since my shoulders are a bit fucked up.

5.) Reverse Lunge into Single Leg RDL Combo

These will absolutely kick your ass and most people despise them. That’s ok, it’s an awesome movement that combines two great unilateral exercises. I prefer it with off-set loading as seen below, but you can use two dumbbells as well.
